CALLAWAY, Fla., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said an 84-year-old man was arrested after allegedly striking a sheriff's deputy with his cane.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to the Callaway Clinic at about 8:45 p.m. Nov. 24 after receiving a report of a man being disruptive, and found the elderly man loudly cursing at the office manager, the Panama City (Fla.) News Herald reported Monday.

The deputy escorted the man out of the building and the sheriff's report said the man again started shouting profanities and the deputy told him he would be arrested if he did not stop.

The report said the man struck the deputy in the stomach with his cane and continued to hit the deputy in the leg while he was being placed in handcuffs.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to the Bay County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting an officer.
