WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A researcher with The Washington Post says a quote on President Obama's new Oval Office rug mistakenly attributes a famous quote to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Post said the rug, which also contains quotations from Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, falsely attributes a quote to King.
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice," reads the quote, which was actually the work of Theodore Parker, an abolitionist, Unitarian minister and Transcendentalist thinker who died at the age of 49 in 1860.
King would often refer to the quote during speeches and appearances, but made no secret of its real origin, the Post said.
