C.W. Wathen, founder and general manager of the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve in Dahlongea, said the zedonk was born Jul 22 to a donkey mother and resembles a donkey in the face, but bears the stripes of zebra on the legs, the Gainesville (Fla.) Times reported.

"The animals have been running (in the fields) together for more than 40 years, but this is the first time that this has happened here," Wathen said. "We never suspected that they (had mated), so it was quite a surprise when the zedonk was born.

"White tigers are more of our calling card, but this is one of the most unique animals that has ever been born here," he said.

Wathen said the baby will begin wandering the preserve with its mother, father and other animals -- including a camel -- in about two weeks.

'Illegal alien crossing' signs removed

NAPLES, Fla., July 29 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said they were investigating the origins of illegally placed road signs warning drivers of an "illegal alien crossing."

Collier County officials said the rectangular signs first appeared Sunday near a mobile home community with a large Spanish-speaking population on Radio Road and were quickly removed, The (Naples, Fla.) Daily News reported.

County sheriff's office spokeswoman Kristi Lester said deputies were investigating the incident. She said the signs were illegally placed at a "public right-of-way."

Bear raids third-floor apartment trash

ORANGE, Fla., July 29 (UPI) -- A Florida man said he caught a bear rifling through his trash bin outside the door of his third-floor apartment.

The Orange County man, who asked that only his first name, Josh, be used, said he heard a loud noise outside of his door in his apartment building and took video of a bear digging through his trash bin, WESH-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported.

Josh said he looked around the next day and found a spot in nearby woods where the bear took his garbage to eat.

"It's not the bear's fault, it's us, we're encroaching on their habitat," Josh said.

Restaurant debuts $69 hot dog

NEW YORK, July 29 (UPI) -- A New York restaurant said it created a $69 Ball Park hot dog, which includes duck fois gras among its toppings, in honor of National Hot Dog Day.

The Serendipity 3 restaurant said the deluxe wiener, which measures 12 inches long, was created in honor of the July 23 National Hot Dog day, NewsOXY.com reported.

"It's not your typical Ball Park hot dog," co-owner Joe Calderone said. "It's 12 inches of beef perfection, grilled in white truffle oil, and it's placed in a toasted pretzel bun that is toasted with white truffle butter, and then it's topped with medallion of duck fois gras with black truffles."

The hot dog set a record for price when Trudy Tant, 49, of South Carolina, became the first to pay $69 for the frankfurter.

"You go to a steakhouse and there are $50-$60 steaks on the menu, so the price is not unreasonable. It can be split in two and people can enjoy because it is very rich," Calderone said.
