DECATUR, Ga., June 1 (UPI) -- Police in Georgia said a dog named Rudy led his owner to a cache of the family's stolen items in the woods -- and to the arrest of seven suspects.

Robert Justice of DeKalb County said his family adopted Rudy after a string of burglaries near their home but the dog was locked in his cage when thieves struck early Sunday, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported Tuesday.

Justice said he was walking Rudy a few hours after the burglary and the dog picked up a scent he couldn't ignore.

"He was pulling me and he was just sniffing constantly on the ground and there it was, my items," Justice said.

He said the thieves returned when he went home to tell his mother and the family copied down the license plate of the vehicle the group used to haul the items.

Police said they arrested seven suspects about 20 minutes later at a fast-food restaurant and investigators are looking into whether the incident was connected to other burglaries.
