Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe NEWPORT COAST, Calif., March 18 (UPI) -- Two residents of a California town are trying to get officials to reimburse them for tires flattened by a deflation device that fell out of a police vehicle. Newport Coast residents Meghan Marcum and Don Lockman have filed claims with the town for reimbursement for towing and tire replacement after they drove over the spike strip that fell from the opened back door of a police officer's Chevy Tahoe Feb. 27, The Daily Pilot, Costa Mesa, Calif., reported Thursday. Advertisement Marcum, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic, is asking for $221 while Lockman is seeking $870 for repair and towing expenses for his 2001 Jaguar. Both motorists said the two driver's side tires on their cars were flattened. Newport Beach spokeswoman Tara Finnigan said the city is looking into the claims and officials are withholding comment until the issue is resolved.
