VICTORIA, British Columbia, April 26 (UPI) -- A Canadian provincial official whose responsibilities include oversight of the British Columbia motor vehicles office has had his driver's license suspended.
John van Dongen is the solicitor-general for British Columbia. He said he has had two speeding tickets in the past two years, enough to trigger a suspension, especially given his history of fast driving, The Province reported.
He said the suspension was a surprise but he accepts responsibility for his actions.
"I am not proud of my driving record," he added.
British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell has reassigned responsibility for the Insurance Corp. of British Columbia and the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles to another member of the cabinet.
