SILVER SPRING, Md., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Maryland State Police said they have arrested a man who confessed to stealing nearly $900 in merchandise from a Sears store at a shopping mall.

Frederick County District Court documents said Michael Eline, 27, turned himself in three days after he confessed to the Saturday theft at the Francis Scott Key Mall, the Frederick (Md.) News reported Friday.

Sears employees said they confronted Eline in the mall parking lot Saturday while he was pushing a shopping cart filled with three shirts, 11 video games, seven DVDs, two hand power tools and other items adding up to a total value of $897.77.

They said Eline confessed to stealing the items but state police were unable to respond to the incident due to a high volume of weather-related traffic problems. Police called Eline in for questioning Tuesday and officers said he again confessed to the crime.

Eline was charged with shoplifting and released on his own recognizance following questioning, police said.
