HALSEY, Ore., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A Halsey, Ore., mother said her 13-year-old son will not be returning "The Book of Bunny Suicides" to his high school library because she intends to burn it.
Taffey Anderson said the book she confiscated after spotting the attention-grabbing title in her son's backpack will never be returned to the Central Linn High School and she intends to do all she can to ensure the school does not replace it, the Albany (Ore.) Democrat-Herald reported Monday.
The book, by British author Andy Riley, features black-humor drawings of rabbits committing various forms of suicide.
"I saw poor bunnies going through meat grinders; people, like, throwing them in there and they're getting shot out. People in Nazi helmets, and there's a bunny, and they're shooting him," she said. "It's not a kid book. I feel it's not even an adult book. It's not OK."
Anderson said Principal Julie Knoedler told her the district's book challenging policy and encouraged her to return the tome to the Central Linn School District. However, Anderson said she intends to file the forms, but the book will be burned.
"They're not getting this book back," she said.
Anderson said that if the school replaces the book, "I'll have somebody else check it out and I'll keep that one. I'm just disgusted by the whole ordeal."
