NEW YORK, June 20 (UPI) -- A Virginia man says he lost 85 pounds by eating salads, hamburgers without buns and other items at the same restaurant -- McDonald's.
Chris Coleson, 42, told ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday he spent six months eating only at the fast food restaurant. He said he also had wraps and apple dippers.
Coleson said he started out at 276 pounds . He said he dropped 14 pants sizes.
"I didn't make my goal of 185 (pounds), but I've made some great lifestyle choices and I'll make that goal," Coleson said.
"You know, it's funny," he said. "I come from a family that has heart disease. My mother passed away at the age of 62. My father had a heart attack at 39. We looked back at some of our cholesterol results, back through 1993 ... and I had a cholesterol level up around 300 and I was 180 pounds. I dropped below 240 just recently. This is the first time since '93 where I've dropped below 250 so, my cholesterol, my triglycerides look pretty good. I'm trending in the right direction."
Coleson's "McDiet" stood in stark contrast to the McDonald's-only diet followed by filmmaker Morgan Spurlock in his 2004 documentary "Super Size Me." Spurlock ate only at McDonald's for 30 days, resulting, he said, in weight gain and other health problems.
