VALLEY STREAM, N.Y., May 28 (UPI) -- A Valley Stream, N.Y., fourth-grade class has expressed sympathy with a soldier whose Jeep was stolen and urged the perpetrator to return the vehicle.

Brooklyn Avenue School teachers Samantha Joltin and Lena LeFleur said they told their students about the plight of Army National Guard Lt. Jason Brandle, whose Jeep was stolen from a parking lot Sunday. They asked the pupils to write reactions to the incident in their journals, New York Newsday reported Wednesday.

Brian Donnelly, 9, wrote his entry as a letter to Brandle.

"I feel really terrible that a man stole your Jeep, dog tags," and other belongings, he wrote. "I hope you stay safe."

Another pupil, Cristina Russo, 9, wrote her entry as a letter to the thief.

"Dear Person Who Stole the Jeep," she wrote. "I hope you know what a horrible thing you did.

"I feel very strongly about this and I hope you make the right decision and give back the Jeep and all of the presents. Good luck with making the right decision."
