LONDON, July 6 (UPI) -- A British judge called an accountant's claim to be the illegitimate son of Princess Margaret and Group Capt. Peter Townsend "an insane delusion."
Robert Brown, who claims that he was given to another couple to avoid a royal scandal, asked the court to unseal the wills of the princess who died in 2002, and Townsend. But Judge Mark Potter refused.
The princess and Townsend became romantically involved while he was an aide to her father, King George VI. But she ended the relationship because he was divorced -- at the time a bar to inheriting the throne.
Brown, an accountant who lives on the island of Jersey, has a birth certificate which states he was born in Kenya to Cynthia and Douglas Brown. Cynthia Brown had been a model for Hardy Amies, a designer who dressed the women of the royal family.
He contends that the Browns were paid to adopt him and bring him up as their own son and that he stands to inherit millions of dollars from Princess Margaret. He also claims to be 13th in line for the throne -- although being illegitimate would probably bar him from becoming king.
