PUGET SOUND, Wash., May 27 (UPI) -- Residents near Puget Sound, Wash., are marveling at a bear that has reportedly swum out into the ocean, crossing over to different islands in the area.

The young black bear has been wandering the towns of Des Moines and Kent since its two-mile swim Friday, The Seattle Times reported. Soon after the bear's arrival back on shore, Des Moines, Wash., police said they began receiving calls from residents who were worried at the sight of a black bear wandering streets and yards.

The bear reportedly did not seem to be aggressive.

Police used a special bear-tracking dog to try to locate the bear, but the dog lost the scent, the newspaper said. Authorities said they want to find the animal before it wanders onto a highway.
