MACOMB, Mich., April 25 (UPI) -- A man in jail for car theft in Macomb, Mich., was arrested for another car theft committed two years ago based on DNA he left on a cinnamon bun.

Norman Wheeler, 40, pleaded guilty on April 2 to stealing a car and is in custody awaiting sentencing on May 22. However, he got some bad news from Detective Eric Keiser, who arrested him for the theft of another vehicle on Dec. 11, 2004, the Macomb Daily reported Wednesday.

Keiser said the investigating office in that incident "found the partially eaten pastry in the car and sent it to the Michigan State Police crime laboratory with hopes that the DNA left on the roll could lead to the identity of the perpetrator."

The lab was able to obtain minute samples of saliva from the bun, which led police to Wheeler's DNA which is on record because of criminal convictions, Keiser said.
