HICKMAN, Ky., April 22 (UPI) -- A suspect has been recaptured after he was mistakenly released from a Kentucky corrections facility due to a faxed court order that turned out to be phony.

The Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal reported Saturday that Timothy D. Rouse, 19, was released April 9 from the Kentucky Correctional and Psychiatric Center after the La Grange facility received the counterfeit paperwork.

The mistake went unnoticed for nearly two weeks, but authorities eventually caught up with Rouse Thursday at his mother's house.

Fulton County Attorney Rick Major said he was shocked that such a mistake could occur at the state facility, where Rouse was undergoing a mental evaluation after allegedly beating up an elderly man.

"It's outrageous that it happened," Major said, pointing out the order had several misspellings and was not on official letterhead.

The newspaper said police are investigating who may have sent the counterfeit fax.
