LIVERPOOL, England, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Children at a British primary school were pulled out of a health class run by a Liverpool university after parents complained of sexual content.

The 8- and 9-year-olds from Roscoe Junior School in Tuebrook were supposed to be learning about diet and exercise in the class, developed by John Moores University. Parents said they were also shown pictures of how the male and female bodies develop during puberty.

"Our pupils really enjoyed this project, particularly working with pedometers," said Amanda Anders, the head teacher. "But I decided to pull them out after receiving complaints from parents. I asked the research team to come into school ... to meet them."

A John Moores spokesman said Liverpool has one of the highest proportions of obese children in the country, and the A-Class is proving to be an effective way of getting the young to eat better and exercise more. He said there have been no previous complaints about the content.
