Amish horse manure's hot in Ohio

May 11, 2006 at 2:54 PM

MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio, May 11 (UPI) -- Police in Middlefield, Ohio, have been asked to watch for whoever is scooping up horse manure at hitching posts for Amish buggies at the local Wal-Mart.

Police in the village, east of Cleveland, were asked to investigate the "suspicious incident" by Lisza Wright, who gets paid $25,000 a year by the village to tidy up the 36 hitching areas every day.

While taking the manure isn't a crime, she said in her complaint the culprits leave a huge mess behind, which gets trampled down and is much harder to clean, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

Wright said the unauthorized pooper-scooping actually doubles her workload at the high-traffic hitches outside Wal-Mart and a shopping plaza.

Police Chief Joe Stehlik promised that officers would keep an eye out, the newspaper said.
