Mousehunting champ built better mousetrap

CHANGSHA, China, April 21 (UPI) -- A former police officer in China's southeast Hunan province has signed contracts worth $3,000 to catch mice in three hotels.

When Hunan native Fang Yuliang was on the police force, during his spare time he and his comrades tried to improve the mousetraps they used.

After seven years, Fang and his fellow officers came up with a better mousetrap, China Daily reported Friday.

When he retired from the police force, Fang used his trap to catch mice on his farm and became famous in his hometown by catching nearly 400 mice in one night.

After starting a second career as a mouse hunter, Fang began receiving invitations from all over China. He has served scores of enterprises and trained dozens of apprentices.

Fang kept upgrading his mousetrap, finally inventing what he calls the "almighty trap," for which he is applying for a patent.

The Changsha Evening News reported Friday on Fang's latest job -- de-mousing three hotels in Yueyang, a city in Hunan province.

"But the dream of my life is to become unemployed," Fang said. "The number of mice is already decreasing, people's standard of living is improving, and the environment is becoming increasingly cleaner."
