Critic Gerhard Stadelmaier of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung was seated in the front row at the Frankfurt Theater House watching Eugene Ionesco's "The Great Massacre or the Triumph of Death" when the attack happened. Advertisement Stadelmaier, a conservative critic, is opposed to the now-common trend in German theater of actors chopping off the heads of rabbits, vomiting mineral water and masturbating one another on stage, The Times of London reported. "This rubbish theater has gone too far," Stadelmeier said. "You don't have to show everything, but you do have to act." Actor Thomas Lawinky resented Stadelmeier's criticism of the genre, and when he spotted him, lunged off the stage and hurled the dead bird on his lap and began screaming. Lawinky has been fired from the theater company.
