OAK BROOK, Ill., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- McDonald's Corp. wants courses taught at its Hamburger University in Oak Brook, Ill., to count for real college credit.

The hamburger giant recently won approval from the American Council on Education to apply 46 credits taught at Hamburger U for credit at traditional colleges. That is up from 26 credits the non-profit organization recognized in 2003, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

The next step, said Hamburger University Dean Diana Thomas, is to join community colleges and universities in helping employees transfer into degree programs.

More than perfect pickles and supersized orders, "From the beginning we've been teaching proper management skills," said Randy Vest, McDonald's senior director of U.S. training, learning and development.

In addition to featuring the college-eligible credits on its Web site, Hamburger U also will mark its Bachelor of Hamburgerology with a stamp saying the studies completed could be worth three college credits, Thomas said.
