CHICAGO, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A man found on the streets of Chicago with an infected leg remains in a nursing home with his identity and past a mystery.

But the man known as Clement Jones is now a beloved resident at Pinnacle Care Center in Waukegan.

"He gets along with other people, even the people who don't get along with other people," one resident told the Chicago Tribune.

Jones arrived at a Chicago hospital with nothing but a pint of gin after police found him on the street suffering from an untreated leg wound. He was transferred to Pinnacle and has stayed there because efforts to trace him through fingerprints have been fruitless.

Because he has no identity, Jones, who appears to be suffering from dementia, cannot get benefits. The nursing home is covering the cost of his board and care.

Staff members say they enjoy his stories, although they doubt he knows Oprah Winfrey and Fats Domino. Jones does small chores in exchange for cigarettes or candy.

"He's very proud," said Porshia Glass, the nursing home's social services administrator. "He won't take anything for free. He'll help out; he'll pick up trays in the dining room."
