MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Police say it may take weeks to inventory some 400 items stolen by a ring of brazen burglars, including a Minnesota state trooper's hat taken from his car.

Three men and a woman were arrested after compact discs were taken from cars in suburban Minneapolis. Pilfered items on display at the Brooklyn Park police department included a lighted door exit sign, construction helmets and warning flashers, a firefighter's uniform and lights from a St. Paul police squad car and state patrol cruisers.

One of the suspects, a 19-year-old former newspaper carrier for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, also is a suspect in a garage fire, the newspaper reported.

The youthful thieves stole more than $200,000 in computer equipment, including six laptop computers, from two dozen businesses, but never sold any of the ill-gotten goods.

"It was like a game to them, just doing it and getting away with it," a Crystal, Minn., police officer said.
