Above-average snowfall, rainfall and heat are all forecast for much of the United States in the forthcoming 2006 Old Farmer's Almanac.

Published since 1792, the New Hampshire-based publication is calling for above average snowfall from Boston to Washington, parts of the Great Lakes and in the southern High Plains, yet claims the rest of the country will see lower-than-normal accumulations of snow.

Higher than usual rains are forecast for the Northeast, Heartland and Pacific Northwest, while all but high temperatures will affect all of the country but a swath from the Heartland to the Southeast, the book says.

The almanac's editors claim their forecasts have been accurate 80 percent of the time over the centuries, but said in a release the $5.99 book is also modern and relevant. In the issue available later this month are tips on being fashionable by renting high-end clothes and accessories instead of buying them.
