LUDLOW, England, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- A rare 1933 book of cartoons depicting Adolf Hitler in bizarre circumstances that the Nazi leader personally approved has been sold at auction in England.

The unidentified buyer paid $360 for the book. One of the cartoons portrays Hitler as an American Indian standing beside a Nazi teepee, The Independent reported.

The illustrations were compiled from the international press, including the Daily Express and the New York Herald Tribune. The book's only publication was approved by Hitler in 1933, in his first year in power.

Richard Westwood-Brookes of Mullock Madeley auctioneers in Ludlow called the book "clever and subtle Nazi propaganda" in that it showed Hitler could laugh at himself but, more importantly, played up his international recognition.
