Police: Munch thief tried to sell painting

OSLO, Norway, May 10 (UPI) -- Norway police say they believe a man being held in connection with the theft of two Edvard Munch paintings tried to sell the artwork.

Oslo detectives said the suspect, from the southeastern county of Ostfold, was in negotiations to sell the paintings, newspaper Aftenposten reported. However, police said no sale was completed.

But the unidentified suspect's attorney said his client says he is innocent.

Police said they still believe the two two art works will be found intact, despite recent claims the robbers destroyed the paintings.

Two other men have been arrested in connection with August's museum theft.
