MINNEAPOLIS, March 15 (UPI) -- An American flag that flew at the Pentagon on the day of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks drew a high bid of $371,300 on the eBay auction site.

The historic flag was put up for sale by a Virginia cancer patient who needs money to help pay his medical expenses.

The anonymous buyer was identified only by the e-mail name "Minnesotabuyer1." The U.S. flag attracted 208 bids in the 10 days it was for sale and also drew criticism from relatives of victims of the tragedy.

"What's next? Selling the bloody uniform of a Marine killed in Iraq," Tim Sumner, whose brother-in-law was a New York firefighter killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, told the New York Post.

The Washington Post said eBay lifted a self-imposed ban on the auction of Sept. 11-related artifacts three months after the attacks. A second flag that flew at the Pentagon is being auctioned by Virginia firefighters.
