LONDON, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A British bigamist whose two wives lived a few miles apart has been sentenced to 240 hours of community service for forging a divorce document.

Roy Jackson, 59, told Janet, his wife of 37 years, he was starting a business in Malaysia. But, rather than heading off to Southeast Asia, he set up house with new wife Pamela, just a few miles down the road, Sky News said.

To keep up the pretence, Jackson telephoned Janet up to three times a day.

The first Janet knew of the deception was when a relative said he had seen Jackson in a car with another woman while he was supposed to be abroad.

Janet calls Jackson a "bare faced liar" who "made a mockery of our marriage." Pamela says she's standing by her man. Jackson says it was all an "unfortunate misunderstanding."
