Woman's finger and thumb reattached

TEXAS CITY, Texas, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Doctors at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston were able to reattach a woman's finger and thumb after her boyfriend severed them with a machete.

"We got there, and she was covered in blood from head to foot. Her thumb was dangling," said Texas City police Sgt. Brian Goetschius, who responded to Rachael Ornelas' call to police Sunday, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Santos Barrios allegedly cut his girlfriend's digits in a fit of rage. A search of his apartment turned up a bloody machete, police said.
