IBARAKI, Japan, June 29 (UPI) -- A Japanese woman arrested for shoplifting says she committed a string of heists for thrills, the Mainichi Times reported Tuesday.

"I became addicted to robbery because I got a thrill from smashing through windows and looking for money," Osaka police officers quoted Kumiko Iwai, 41, as saying.

At first the woman said she stole because her husband did not give her enough to run the household. But then she admitted it was something she had been doing -- about 20 times now -- for the excitement.

Iwai confessed to all the crimes when she was arrested and indicted for stealing from a restaurant in Ibaraki last week, police said.

They said she apparently targeted mostly first floor apartments, where she gained entry by smashing windows and stole cash, computers, printers and video decks.
