BRADENTON, Fla., April 30 (UPI) -- Florida cat-owners who tracked down their missing feline 3,000 miles away were set Friday to bring the cat back home, some seven years after her disappearance.

Pamela Edwards and her 10-year-old daughter, Adrienne, flew to San Francisco earlier this week to get the 10-year-old cat, Cheyenne, who they lost in 1997. The trip was paid for by comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, the Bradenton (Fla.) Herald reported Friday.

Before leaving, the three Floridians stopped to tape a show with DeGeneres in Los Angeles.

Janie Edwards, Pamela's mother, told the Herald she never thought the cat would be found. "We thought the kitty had become lunch for one of the alligators," she said late Thursday. "We thought the kitty was gone."

San Francisco animal control officials had discovered Cheyenne's rightful owners after scanning a microchip that had been implanted by the animal shelter she came from.

"The whole thing absolutely amazed us all over this little black cat," Janie Edwards said. "She's a beautiful black cat. We'll make her a great home."
