Norway overrun with April Fools

OSLO, Norway, April 1 (UPI) -- Thursday marked the traditional April Fool's Day, and Norway was one country where pranks weren't hard to find, Aftenposten reported.

TV 2 joked that several Norway prisons had sent inmates to showings of "The Passion of the Christ," and stationed officers outside to wait for criminals to confess after seeing the movie.

Oslo Township fibbed that tunnel excavations had uncovered the remains of a 15,000-year-old human body that would halt subway expansions for years. The find "would likely be named Homo Metro" due to its resting place.

Scandinavian Earthlines ran a glossy ad for a fictional underground super-train in Thursday's Swedish newspapers. The ad included pictures of the high-tech train that could make the 683 mile trip from Stockholm to Lofoten in under an hour, and invited interested customers to call the company.

Those falling for the trick were informed by Norwegian tourist authorities that the train story was not quite true, but Norway was in fact one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
