LONDON, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The most expensive necklace ever sold at Harrods, London's exclusive department store, is to be auctioned off and expected to fetch at least $16 million.

Modeled last week by Yasmin Le Bon, wife of Duran Duran lead singer Simon Le Bon, the 18-carat white gold necklace centers on the Blue Empress, a rare blue diamond.

Mined in South Africa before being shipped under high security for cutting and polishing by the Steinmentz Group in India, the necklace has already received a 10 million pound ($16 million) bid.

One of a unique collection of 11 blue diamonds designed by Los Angeles designer Christian Tse, the necklace could become not just the perfect Christmas present for some lucky woman but the subject of a bidding war among gem investors who value the rarity value of colored diamonds. High security surrounds the diamond's display at the Knightsbridge, London, store.

The auction is set for Dec. 23.
