The New York Post says the tough 11-year-old -- this week turning 12 -- boy is lucky to be alive after a stray bullet bounced off his skull.

Doctors say the boy should make a complete recovery and Giovanni's father, Leon Carter, says his son's pride and joy -- his dreadlocks -- quite possibly saved his life.

The boy was able walk home, holding his head, despite the bleeding wound, and his is recovering at Cornell-Weill Medical Center after doctors removed bone fragments from his skull.

Gio -- as he is called -- is referred to as the little neighborhood genius -- into computers and sports -- and apparently was on his way to a store to spend his weekly allowance when he got caught in the middle of gang gunfire.

QUARTERBACK HOUSE FOR SALE ON E-BAY

You can bid on a five-bedroom, two-story house belonging to future Hall of Famer and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre by simply logging on e-Bay.

The auction ends May 14 and the current bid on Sunday was a little over $1.3 million for the huge home on 2.77 acres of wooded land in a secluded area of Green Bay, Wis.

The house also offers an indoor racquetball court, master suite with Jacuzzi, five bathrooms and a private guest suite.

This is Favre's in-season house. He has just finished construction on a new house near his childhood home in Hattiesburg, Miss., and wants a smaller place in Green Bay to play out his remaining years before he retires from football.

ALONE AT THE BAR

A Barclaycard survey finds nearly four of five businesswomen who travel feel uncomfortable drinking alone in hotel bars.

London's Daily Telegraph says the survey also finds 47 percent are unhappy eating alone in hotel restaurants, as well, and 49 percent believe they get poorer service than their male counterparts.

The survey contains replies from 2,500 male and female business travelers and says women mainly shun bars and restaurants in hotels, feeling safer in their hotel room.

Simon Chick, head of marketing for Barclaycard, said: "It is a shame in the 21st century that women travelers still feel uncomfortable eating or drinking alone. Women spend on average four nights per month away from home on business and they should feel comfortable unwinding in the hotel bar after a hard day's work."

WOMEN LEAD 'AMERICAN BUSINESS AWARDS'

Michael Gallagher of Virginia was outraged by how a few executives at Enron, HealthSouth and other companies had given the business world a bad name so he launched a national effort to restore confidence in American business.

His effort culminated this week with the first American Business Awards, where 40 ordinary Americans were honored Hollywood-style with "Stevies" for their great performances in the workplace.

Women dominated the top honors. Debra Lee of BET and Chris A. Davis of McLeodUSA Inc. were named Best Executives at a New York City ceremony. Other top female winners included Wendy Marlett, senior vice president of marketing with KB Home, as Best Marketing Executive; and Sue Powers, senior vice president of worldwide product solutions with Worldspan, an Atlanta-based travel-management software provider, as Best Product Development or Engineering Executive.
