PORTSMOUTH, England, May 8 (UPI) -- A 1-ton shire horse went on a rampage, injuring six people when it panicked during the Heavy Horse Show in Portsmouth, England, witnesses said.

The giant horse was being shown when it took off toward the crowd, dragging its handler along the ground and leaving two people with broken ankles, the Daily Telegraph reported Thursday.

It is reported three others received treatment for minor injuries and an expectant mother was left in shock.

All wounded people were treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital in the nearby suburb of Cosham, the report said.

"You could see the horse didn't look happy as it was being paraded around, it was kicking out. Then it careered off round the field and suddenly crashed through a fence and it was away," Alan East, of the Southsea resort said.

The horse had to be calmed by a different handler since its own was one of the people left with a broken ankle.
