Bank robbers grab $28M in 2007's 1st half

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- New statistics released by the FBI Monday show bank robbers hauled off $28,557,750.04 from U.S. banks in the first six months of 2007 alone.

The federal lawmen also reported 3,641 bad guys committed 2,993 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies in the time period.

Also, the cash was only recovered in 569 of the 2,729 incidents in which money was actually taken.

Acts of violence were committed during 139 of the 2,993 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies logged during the six-month period.

These acts included 47 instances involving the discharge of firearms, 80 instances involving assaults, and 19 instances of hostage situations, the FBI said in its report. The acts of violence resulted in 47 injuries, 10 deaths, and 24 people being taken hostage.
