KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Authorities were looking for a gunman who killed a customer and wounded an assistant manager at a Hooters restaurant in Tennessee.

Knoxville Police Department officials confirmed Stacey Sherman, 35, of Applegate, Mich., died of gunshot wounds suffered Saturday morning as he left a Hooters restaurant, the Knoxville (Tenn.) News-Sentinel reported Sunday.

Police Lt. Doug Stiles said Sherman was fatally wounded about 1 a.m. Saturday when an unidentified man armed with a .40-caliber gun started shooting, allegedly over a dispute over his bill.

"We're not sure at this time that he was even aware there had been an argument," Stiles said of Sherman.

Assistant Manager Kris Key, 25, who also was shot, had asked the alleged assailant to leave after waiving his tab, the newspaper said.

Police officials say the alleged shooter is a white male with dark complexion and is missing four front teeth.

"These things don't happen at Hooters," said Shannon Herlighy, local president for the Hooters chain, adding, "It's tragic."
