WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- A new poll indicates only a minority of U.S. voters agree with Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign that her rivals are "piling on" because she is a woman.

About one-quarter of those surveyed for the Fox 5/Washington Times/Rasmussen poll said that criticism of the New York Democrat constitutes piling on. Fewer than half of those who thought there was piling on said it was because of her gender.

"The vast majority of Americans are treating Senator Clinton as a front-running presidential candidate, not as a women who happens to be running for president," said Scott Rasmussen, who conducted the poll. "She's being accepted as a serious candidate, rather than anything else."

Of those questioned, 57 percent do not agree with Clinton's claim and 18 percent are unsure.

One thousand adults were questioned for the poll.
