LINDON, Utah, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff broke his leg this weekend in Lindon, Utah, while preparing for a charity event on a motorcycle.

Attorney General's Office spokesman Paul Murphy said Shurtleff had been preparing for Sunday's Fall Ride For Fallen Officers event, when he hit some gravel and lost control of the motorcycle, the Deseret Morning News reported.

While Shurtleff was wearing a helmet at the time of Saturday's accident, he did break his leg in four different places while falling off the bike.

Murphy said that it would likely take Shurtleff eight weeks before he can walk again.

The spokesman added that despite the devastating injury, Shurtleff's first concern was for Sunday's charity event.

"He was really worried that this accident would somehow create problems for the motorcycle ride," Murphy said.

The newspaper said that the event was to raise funds for a $1.3 million memorial in Salt Lake City that would honor the state's police officers.
