Rare butterfly puts stop to construction

Published: Nov. 9, 2007 at 12:18 AM
OSLO, Norway, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Norwegian officials have stopped a major construction project in Halden after the endangered Chequered Blue Butterfly (Scolitantides orion) was spotted.

The Torpbukta area in Iddefjorden, Halden, is the only place in Norway where it is possible to find the rare butterfly, Aftenposten said Thursday.

A decision on the development, which includes 10 homes and five cabins, will be made after consulting with officials in Halden, the newspaper said.

GALAXY COLLIDE NASA
This undated NASA image shows two galaxies that are slowly colliding and possibly, in hundreds of millions of years, only one galaxy will remain. Although it is likely that no stars in the two galaxies will directly collide, the gas, dust and ambient magnetic fields do interact directly. These galaxies, part of the vast Hydra-Centaurus supercluster of galaxies, spans over 100 thousand light-years across and is located about 100 million light-years away.
