NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- A New York band is suing Greek singer Yianni Papastefanou for allegedly failing to take part in a number of wedding performances, a lawsuit indicates.

The Queens Supreme Court lawsuit filed by members of the Greek band Power Station alleges that Papastefanou agreed to perform with the band at 120 weddings through 2009, but then stopped taking part in the performances, the New York Post said Sunday.

The band is seeking $35,185 in damages from Papastefanou.

The singer has countered with a claim that Power Station bandleader Chris Lambropoulos caused the problem by overbooking the band and failing to notify Papastefanou of the weddings he allegedly missed.

Chris Patsis, the groom at a recent wedding, told the Post the loss of Papastefanou could be detrimental to Power Station.

"He's probably the best singer in the U.S. right now," Patsis said.
