Amateur company shoots 'Star Wars' spoofs

LONDON, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A small group of friends in England has made video spoofs of two "Star Wars" films for less than $6,000, The Telegraph reported Friday.

The eight-member team that comprises Backyard Productions used household objects, toys and computers to create its own versions of the sci-fi blockbusters.

Trailers for "The Empire Strikes Backyard" and "Star Wars The Emperor's New Clones" can be viewed on YouTube.

"We have got bubble wrap on the ceiling, we've got bottle tops and yogurt pots on the walls along with tubes from the center of rolls of carpets," Darren Scales, co-founder of Backyard Productions, told the newspaper.

"The blasters are water pistols, we just stuck a few bits of lids on, add a bit of spray paint and then you have a blasterm" he said. "You take a hard hat, put an Imperial sticker on it and suddenly it's an Imperial work helmet for someone building the Death Star -- it's not rocket science. It's the same with the light sabres. Up close they look awful, but you put a stick in it, you hold it and on screen you can't tell the difference."
