Indiana sets up hotline for measles info

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Indiana Department of Health officials have created a list of churches, schools, stores and workplaces where people might have been infected with measles.

However, health officials said although two people who were at the Super Bowl Village from about 3 to 10 p.m. Feb. 3 were together the whole time and that this measles exposure appeared to be contained, The Indianapolis Star reported.

The Indiana Health Department has set up an information hotline that will operate from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday to answer questions from the public about the 13 cases of measles reported in Boone and Hamilton counties. The hotline number is 877-826-0011. More information can be found at www.in.gov/isdh.

Two schools, White River Elementary and Noblesville Intermediate, reported students were exposed to the highly contagious disease. About 1 percent of the 9,400 Noblesville Schools students were not immunized for measles, Mark Booth, director of student services, said.

Those fully vaccinated for measles or born before 1957 are immune, but state health officials urge those who might have been exposed to see their healthcare provider to check vaccination status and be immunized if they might be at risk.
