Super Bowl fans warned of measles case

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Indiana officials have told health departments in New York and Massachusetts an Indiana resident with measles visited Super Bowl Village in Indianapolis Friday.

Indiana Health Department officials said the person with the highly contagious disease did not go inside the NFL Experience at the Indiana Convention center, the Indianapolis Star reported.

The Super Bowl Host Committee said 200,000 people visited Super Bowl Village Friday and 35,000 gathered for the LMFAO concert, WISH-TV, Indianapolis, reported.

The station said it remained unclear what time the person with measles visited downtown Indianapolis.

State officials said another case of measles has been confirmed in Hamilton County and there are two probable cases in Boone County, the Star said.

WISH said the state health department had confirmed a case of measles in Boone County.

Vaccines prevent measles in most people and the health department urged people to check with healthcare providers to ensure their vaccines are up-to-date.

Measles begins with a fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes about seven to 10 days after exposure. The fever increases and a rash appears on the face and upper neck and spreads down the back and trunk, then to the arms, hands, legs and feet, the health department said.
