Brooke Shields to play recurring role on 'Law & Order: SVU'

Aug. 12 (UPI) -- "Suddenly Susan" and "The Middle" alum Brooke Shields will play a recurring role on Law & Order: SVU for Season 19.

"I play a very different character from any I have ever played," Shields said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm excited to stir the SVU pot a bit."

Little is known about the character other than she will impact the world of New York Police Lieutenant Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Law & Order: SVU returns Sept. 27 on NBC. The network retweeted the newspaper's story about Shields' casting Friday.
