'Training Day' episode opens with tribute to late star Bill Paxton

March 3 (UPI) -- This week's episode of the cop drama Training Day began with a tribute to its star Bill Paxton, who died Saturday at the age of 61.

"In loving memory of our friend and colleague Bill Paxton. 1955-2017," read the message that appeared on the screen, along with a photo of the smiling actor, at the opening of Thursday's show.

The small-screen re-boot of the 2001 film Training Day debuted in February. All 13 episodes of the CBS series have been filmed.

Paxton's family confirmed Sunday the actor died due to complications from heart surgery.

The Texas native was famous for his work in the films Weird Science, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Twister, Apollo 13 and 2 Guns. He also appeared in the TV series Big Love, Hatfields & McCoys and Agents of Shield.
