LONDON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Peter Capaldi is to appear in the first episode of the Doctor Who spinoff series Class, the BBC announced.

The first two installments of the sci-fi, young-adult series will debut on Oct. 22. Written by Patrick Ness, the show stars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah.

"The Doctor Who family is growing, and it's fantastic to be able to welcome the young, new cast of Class in to the Whoniverse," Capaldi said in a statement.

"At last, we can tell you a little more about Class! Though there are still many, many secrets to come. Many. Like, a lot. But, of course, the Doctor is in Episode 1! That's how these things are done. Truly, though, I can't wait for everyone to see the show; we've worked so hard and I'm so proud of it. Soon, soon..." Ness teased.
