NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- Jimmy Fallon's method of predicting the winner of this year's Kentucky Derby included the use of a litter of 16 adorable puppies.

During The Tonight Show Thursday, Fallon let loose the puppies from a gate much like those found on the racetrack to see which would make it to a trough of kibble.

After the four-legged pups rushed to the food in a "aw"-inducing rush, Fallon determined the winner of this year's Derby will be puppy No. 8, representing the racehorse 'Mor Spirit.'

Ahead of airing, Tonight launched a live feed from inside the puppies' "dressing room" behind the scenes, which included a shark pet bed and one puppy peeing right in front of the camera.

The 142nd Kentucky Derby will take place Saturday evening at Churchill Downs and will air live on NBC starting at 4 p.m.
