"I'm grateful for the chance to work with the remarkable team at NBC Sports, and appreciate their support as I look forward to what's next," Elliott said.

The announcement comes less than two years after the 44-year-old news anchor left ABC talk show Good Morning America for NBC. Elliott does not have a new job lined up, although he is rumored to have considered returning to GMA.

Elliott is reportedly leaving NBC due to frustration about his lack of assignments, although a source told Variety the anchor is "grateful" to the network for allowing him to break his contract. He was unable to appear on NBC talk show Today due to a 6-month non-compete clause.

Elliott previously anchored ESPN series SportsCenter, and was with GMA from 2011 to 2012. Some speculate he may now move to Fox Sports.
