NEW YORK, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A trailer for AMC's upcoming series Preacher debuted during a commercial break on Sunday's edition of the cable television network's top-rated zombie drama The Walking Dead.

Based on the 1990s comic-book franchise created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, the Sony Pictures Television and AMC Studios co-production was developed for the small screen by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, as well as showrunner Sam Catlin.

AMC has ordered 10 one-hour episodes, with an expected premiere date in mid-2016.

"Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer [played by Dominic Cooper,] a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power," a synopsis said. "Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip [played by Ruth Negga,] and an Irish vampire named Cassidy [played by Joseph Gilgun] embark on a journey to, literally, find God."
