Rahm Emanuel says on 'Late Show' being Chicago mayor is best job

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said during his first visit to "Late Show" in New York he loves his job and plans to start his re-election campaign in 16 months.

Emanuel appeared on Monday's edition of David Letterman's late-night chat show.

"When I was a kid, the mayor of Chicago was always named Daley, and that's all I know. And then there was Jane Byrne for a while. What happened to the big, juggernaut powerhouse Daley regime? Because his son was mayor for a while. In fact, you took after him, didn't you?" Letterman asked Emanuel.

"Your American history is unbelievable. That Indiana thing is really working for you," Emanuel said. "Well, it's time for a new chapter, time for some changes, and both Richard Daley, his father and himself, have done great things for the city, but it's time to get the city moving and on a new chapter."

"Are you enjoying your time there?" Letterman inquired.

"It doesn't even fully capture it -- love it. Best job I've ever had in public life," Emanuel replied.

"And will run for re-election, you think?" Letterman wanted to know.

"Yeah," Emanuel said.

Beyond that, the mayor joked, "I was thinking of this late-time talk-show thing."
