GARY, Ind., March 13 (UPI) -- Ed Asner's son said the 83-year-old actor was hospitalized for exhaustion, not a stroke, after falling ill during his one-man show in Gary, Ind.

"My dad is doing fine. He was rushed to the hospital yesterday for being disoriented on stage," Asner's son, Matt, told TMZ Wednesday.

"He is resting now at an Indiana hospital and is doing well and very grumpy, which with him is always a good thing. He is being assessed right now and what I can say is that it was not a stroke. That much we do know. He was feeling under the weather for a few weeks so he may just need some rest but for now he is just fine," the younger Asner said.

TMZ said Ed Asner fell ill and struggled with his lines about 15 minutes into his play "FDR" Tuesday.

Asner's TV credits include "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and its spin-off "Lou Grant." The president of the Screen Actors Guild also is known for his work in the film "Elf." He recently appeared in the Broadway play "Grace."
